Clint Dempsey provided the dream start to the USA’s opening game of World Cup 2014 against Ghana with a dazzling goal after just 29 seconds.
The goal was the fastest of this year’s tournament and the fifth fastest in World Cup history, and made the former Fulham and Tottenham player the first USA player to score at three World Cup tournaments.
With Portugal and Germany being the other two teams in Group G, defeat in this opening match would effectively mean elimination for one team, so Jurgen Klinsmann’s side could not have had a better start to the match and the tournament as a whole.
